Are you looking for?

  • Flexibility or a portfolio career?
  • Revalidation opportunities?
  • A change of pace which allows you to blend your current role with some experience of a rural Emergency Department?

Elgin is a great place to live and work, lying between the coastline of the Moray Firth and the mountains of the Cairngorm National Park in the Highlands. Moray is beautiful and enjoys its own secluded microclimate.  Mountain sports, world class fishing and golf and the finest Scottish food and drink is available on it’s’ doorstep.  An excellent quality of life for all the family is to be found here.

Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin is the smallest District General Hospital in Scotland and is within easy reach of Inverness and Aberdeen. We see approximately 25,000 patients a year in the Emergency Department - our nearest centres are 40 miles to the West and 60 miles to the East. We admit a full range of Trauma and Medical cases; both Adult and Paediatrics. We do our own Paediatric sedation and provide Critical Care to patients being retrieved to ICU off site. There may be opportunity to work with pre-hospital and retrieval services for interested and suitably qualified applicants.  As a result of the Scottish Government’s National Redirection Policy we redirect non-Emergency Medicine presentations at triage to Out Of Hours GP services.

NHS Grampian are enthusiastically recruiting Emergency Medicine Consultants, who will be based at Dr Gray’s Hospital and work a 2-10PA contract on a flexible annualised basis. We have full-time or part-time options available and our annualised rota can meet most requirements. Recent developments have allowed the organisation to operate a 1:6 rota, offering a healthy work/life balance.

We pride ourselves in being able to offer Consultants the chance to regain hands-on clinical work in a small and welcoming department where patient-centered care is paramount and where many Junior Doctors have been inspired to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine. These posts provide an opportunity for newly qualified and /or experienced Consultants to experience a full remit of Emergency Medicine work that includes a reasonable amount of Major Trauma, especially when they work in Trauma Units close to Major Trauma Centres. Some ex-colleagues have chosen to work overseas and an opportunity such as this meets the requirement to maintain GMC revalidation.

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).

If you are interested in joining the Emergency Medicine Team at Dr Gray’s we would be pleased to invite you to visit the Hospital and speak to our medical staff about the work of the department and the recreational activities within the area. Elgin can be accessed by road, rail and air. Flights to Inverness and Aberdeen and trains to Elgin are available on a daily basis.
