The Post:
This role is an exciting opportunity to help shape and grow the office of the Chief Information Officer within the Digital & Security directorate of National Services Scotland. We are looking for an outstanding candidate who can help to direct, develop and mature this team to ensure it contributes to the positive impact the NHS and the wider public sector can have on all of our citizens.

This role will have significant influence on the management of the Digital portfolio across NSS and will work closely with the other business units to shape their Digital demand. The role will be critical in assisting business units in the development of their strategies, associated roadmaps and implementation plans in support of the Scottish Government Digital Health and Social Care strategy. The post holder will lead and drive the transformation of how the Digital portfolio is prioritised within NSS and ensure this aligns to existing governance frameworks and policies.

The post of Chief Officer will report directly into the Director of Digital and Security and will play a critical role in the delivery of Digital Services to NSS and NHS Scotland.

The post holder will be responsible for development and oversight of governance, financial control and operating models within the Strategic Business Unit and will work closely with the Executive leadership team to embed these disciplines within the Digital and Security operating model. The post holder will be responsible for oversight and management of the DaS Digital Strategy, supporting the Director of Digital and Security to implement and maintain strong governance, financial control and ensure business outcomes are met.

The Candidate:
This is a challenging and highly rewarding position which will require the successful candidate to have outstanding strategy, leadership and influencing skills. The ability to engage with multiple stakeholders and communicate your vision and ideas in a clear and concise manner is essential. You must be highly results–oriented but achieve those results working in partnership and with a keen eye for political sensitivity and the need to work as a team.  It is vital that you espouse the values of NSS with openness, integrity, respect and care being at the heart of those values.

Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline with a post-graduate qualification/certification in Business Management or significant demonstrable experience in these areas.

Location and Working Pattern:
Location – Edinburgh/Glasgow

Working Pattern - Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week

The role has a permanent location based in Edinburgh or Glasgow, but flexible working will allow the post holder to operate from a remote location on a regular basis. The post holder must be prepared to attend the fixed location at the request of the organisation when deemed essential.
