Applications are invited for two Consultant Paediatrician posts in Specialist Community Paediatrics including Child Protection.

Duties of Post

  • Deliver direct care within a neurodisability and neurodevelopmental service for new and review patients within child centres including multidisciplinary clinics for children with a wide range of complex needs and assessment of children who may have autism and other neurodiversities, as part of a multi-disciplinary service.
  • Focus on the long waits for paediatric assessment within Glasgow City
  • Contribute to the child protection medical service – daytime and out of hours. Currently 1:8 OOO rota with 5% supplement.
  • Work with community and acute colleagues to support the delivery of the ‘Complex Child Discharge Protocol’ to enable identification of additional vulnerabilities in complex cases and improve communication across all services.
  • Provide medical support and advice to other staff within the wider multidisciplinary team providing care. This will include triage of referrals, Joint Assessment Clinics, and Co-ordinated Care Meetings.
  • Contribute to leadership of community 0-19 neurodisability services for children in a locality area providing direct clinical care and supervision of other staff providing care. This will be predominately based in Glasgow city, but may change in the future depending on service requirements.
  • Liaise with other departments and agencies within the hospital and community setting in the promotion of seamless children's services.
  • To work with Clinical Director and Clinical Leads in the further development of integrated care pathways for specialist community paediatric services across Greater Glasgow and Clyde
  • Contribute to the planning and development of Specialist Community Paediatric Teams (SCPTs) in Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Including information collation, evaluation of services, service and policy development.
  • Undertake management, education, audit and research activities within the service​​​​​.​​​​​​​

This job plan is negotiable and will be agreed between the successful applicant and the Clinical Director.  NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde initially allocates all full time consultants 10 PAs made up of 9 PAs in Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and one core Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) for CPD, audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, job planning, internal routine communication and management meetings.  The precise allocation of SPA time and associate objectives will be agreed with the successful applicant and will be reviewed at annual job planning.

The post has 10 programmed activities with allocated time for clinically related activity including administrative tasks and clinical meetings. One SPA is identified for personal CPD and appraisal. More SPA time can be negotiated through the job planning process depending on the requirements of the individual consultant to provide educational supervision of doctors in training and other SPA tasks. The post will initially be based in Glasgow City part of the Board area. These services are currently delivered from Bridgeton, Gorbals, West (Drumchapel) and Woodside Health Centres
