Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.

The core function of the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions (NMAHP) Directorate is to support the education, training and continuing professional development of nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, health and social care chaplains and their support workers.  The Directorate is also responsible for providing education, training and workforce development across wider professional groups and disciplines, often in partnership with other agencies, to support key policy imperatives.

What You Will Do

This is an exciting opportunity to join the NMAHP Directorate within NHS Education for Scotland. We are looking to appoint a Principal Educator to join the Post-registration/Postgraduate Education, Continuing Professional Development and Health Care Support Worker Programme to provide professional leadership to a broad range of workstreams that contribute to national priorities with a particular focus on the education and development needs of the workforce at Career Framework Levels 2-4.

  • In partnership with the Heads of Programme and other colleagues, provide leadership to the core Health Care Support Worker workstream
  • Play a lead role in implementing and embedding national policy and initiatives that support the education and development of the workforce at Career Framework Levels 2-4
  • Support a range of activity across the Post-registration, Continuing Professional Development and Health Care Support Worker Programme team  
  • Use digital knowledge and skills to lead and operationally manage a range of high-profile educational initiatives at national level, with a focus on developments for the support worker workforce
  • Liaise with a range of partners from health, social care, education, independent and third sectors, including Further and Higher Education Institutions, Scottish Government and strategic service leads in health and social care
  • Develop and maintain effective links with key stakeholders in order to support wider NES activity
  • Actively contribute to NES NMAHP directorate and corporate planning activities ensuring that plans are progressed

What You Will Bring

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Knowledge and experience of the education and development needs of the support workforce at Career levels 2-4.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Nationally recognised education qualification
  • Well developed digital knowledge and skills and experience in technology enhanced learning  
  • Substantial postgraduate experience and will have held enhanced responsibility in an educational or healthcare post
  • Knowledge of and expertise in organisational, leadership and management development and models for delivery of leadership development.​​​​​​​​​​​
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiating, influencing and facilitation skills at a senior level, with the ability to communicate sensitive and complex information
