Who we are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is the national health board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.

The Opportunity

We are looking for two Specialist Lead’s (Band 7) to join and shape an emerging team who will deliver a fresh approach to increasing employability opportunities for Armed Forces Service Leavers, Veterans and the wider military family in NHS Scotland.

The Military Access Programme (MAP) will contribute to the national effort to support our workforce – getting the right people, with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time – as well as ensuring we can offer the military community a rewarding and challenging role supporting the NHS across Scotland.

We are looking for two people who are passionate about making organisations, people, technology and processes work better. You will have an understanding or awareness of the Armed Forces; in particular the issues and opportunities surrounding employment of veterans, service leavers and their families; and, or health and social care workforce design, recruitment and management experience.

These two Specialist Lead roles will play a crucial role within the delivery team through defining, designing, delivering, refining and reviewing workforce projects focused on increasing employability for the military community in health and social care roles across Scotland. We are looking for two individuals who can plan, prioritise, coordinate multiple activities, and develop great relationships across systems.

What you'll do

Key tasks will include but are not restricted to;

•         Search, map, locate, create and scale projects and initiatives aimed at increasing the access Armed Forces service leavers, veterans, reservists and their dependants have to roles in Health and Social Care across the NHS in Scotland.

•         Project manage by co-ordinating, planning, tracking and driving the overall progress against specific deliverables of the programme.

•         Acting as a ‘brand’ ambassador for the Armed Forces community within the NHS and especially focused on employability.

•         Working collaboratively within the team and across key stakeholders; mapping needs, issues and problems to inform engagement and communications within a project management methodology.

•         Designing and championing a ‘Once for Scotland’ approach to all our workstreams.

What you'll bring

These will include but are not restricted to;

  • Knowledge and experience of the current recruitment landscape, including design and management of attraction and selection processes for underrepresented groups in relation to employment.
  • Experience of partnership working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of leading projects and initiatives, including engagement, co-ordination, management of others’ contributions and appropriate use of financial and other resources
  • Experience of working within a project environment.
  • Extensive experience of facilitation of groups, teams and events.
