A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and dynamic experienced Registered Nurse to lead the nursing team within the Emergency Department at University Hospital Monklands.  As the Senior Charge Nurse, you will be committed to continuous professional development and possess strong communication and organisational skills with the ability to apply these effectively in a dynamic environment.  As an experienced nurse, you will provide strong clinical, theoretical and practical leadership to the Emergency Department Nursing Team, whilst promoting a collaborative partnership with multi-disciplinary colleagues both within and out with the department.  You will provide a high standard of nursing care and be able to demonstrate that you can deliver change through effective visible clinical leadership.   Candidates will be able to evidence their ability to inspire and motivate their team and have a passion for providing safe, highly effective, person centred care.  The Emergency Department sees approx. 80,000 new attendances per year with a mixture of Adult and Paediatric presentations.  There is a dedicated Minor Injury service with plans to develop a minor illness service also.  Our department caters for Adult and Paediatric medical, surgical, specialty and trauma services and is supported by a dynamic team of highly experienced Registered Nurses and Clinical Support Workers.  Additionally, we have 7 Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and have adopted the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) model of advanced practice within our department, encompassing a multi professional workforce including a Paramedic and a Clinical Pharmacist.  Our multidisciplinary team also comprises a number of Emergency Medicine Registrars and 11 Consultants in Emergency Medicine and Paediatric Emergency Medicine.  You will have 24 hours continuing responsibility for the Emergency Department and will aim to enhance the patient’s overall Unscheduled Care experience.   As a Senior Charge Nurse, you should also manage and develop the performance of the Emergency Department Nursing team and contribute to the delivery of NHS Lanarkshire’s organisational objectives.

To fulfil the requirements of the post, you should be an NMC registered nurse with the relevant wealth and breadth of experience within an Emergency Care / Emergency Department setting and be able to describe expert clinical and professional practice developed through practical experience and theoretical knowledge.  You will be able to demonstrate your ability to provide a high standard of nursing care and your ability to manage change through effective leadership.  Applicants should be proactive, highly motivated and have the ability to lead from the front in a challenging and dynamic environment.  This role is pivotal in raising clinical standards of care for patients and managing local and national agendas and as such, you will work very closely with the Senior Nurse (Emergency Care Directorate) to deliver the key aspects of these agendas.  You will also contribute to the wider Emergency Care Directorate Management Team as an integral figure.  You should be educated to degree level with post graduate qualifications relating to Emergency Care.  In addition, you should be in possession of a mixture of some of the following professional development courses including, TNCC, ALS, APLS, ATLS, ENP/MINTS.  A qualification in frontline leadership and management and / or Quality Improvement would be highly desirable for this post.  The post holder will work predominantly days, Monday to Friday and the successful candidate will take part in the Hospital Cover rota (including occasional weekend working).
