Specialist Healthcare Scientist (Band 6) - 12 month maternity leave cover

As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.

Applications are invited from Biomedical Scientists registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) or applicants who can provide evidence that they are working towards HCPC registration, to join the patient services team based in the Scottish National Blood Transfusion department in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. This busy department provides a blood banking and red cell reference service for hospitals in Edinburgh, the Lothians, Borders area and Fife. This post offers the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of work undertaken in the Integrated Red Cell area, which includes blood banking and red cell investigation sections of the department. The successful applicant will join a team of highly skilled and motivated Biomedical Scientists working in those sections.

Applicants are required to hold a Specialist Diploma or if you do not have this qualification you will be prepared to complete a Specialist Diploma on appointment. Active participation in CPD and opportunities for further study are both supported and encouraged. You will undergo training as appropriate for the requirements of the position.
