Option A – MSc in Vascular Sciences
The appointee will be part of The Institute of Cardiovascular Research (TICR) and will engage in a research project in line with the Institute research interests. A key focus of the research programme is to gain a better understanding of the underlying signalling pathways involved in development of cardiovascular disease, with a particular interest in the role of endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness, which are central to the early development and progression of cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis. A major component of our research involves the use of non-invasive techniques (laser Doppler imaging, laser speckle contrast imaging, ultrasound, pulse wave analysis) for exploring the microcirculation and macrocirculation. These state-of-the-art techniques will be applied to a programme of research that explores basic science signalling pathways through to clinical disease. Duties out with the on call component will be split 50:50 between clinical and research within the Division of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, University of Dundee. The clinical component can be tailored to the individuals needs
Option B – Full time clinical duties
Full clinical work load, contributing 100% to on call rota and full participation in the unit elective clinical duties. In order to enhance experience, we expect the successful candidate to undertake a major quality improvement project, namely the setting up and maintenance of a database of vascular activity and outcomes (ie either aortic surgery or vascular access) or similar, leading to presentations and publications. Time will be given to undertake this quality improvement project
