We are seeking to recruit a Specialty Doctor in Addictions Psychiatry to fill a new post working within both community and prison addiction services.


This position is based within the Perth & Kinross NHS Substance Misuse Services and the successful candidate will have responsibility for delivering clinical care within the Perth & Kinross locality with additional in-reach clinics within HMP Perth and HMP Castle Huntly. The administrative base for the post will be within the city of Perth. This is a new post and as such there will be ample opportunity for the successful candidate to develop the role in line with wider service developments within the team. Furthermore, with strong links to the University of Dundee Medical School and the University`s Division of Neuroscience research facilities, there are opportunities for both under and post graduate teaching as well involvement in addiction related research activity. There is an established Continuing Professional Development Programme within Tayside, with weekly teaching at Murray Royal Hospital, Perth.


The successful candidate will be joining a well-established clinical service working alongside a Consultant Addictions Psychiatrist as well as experienced substance misuse nurses, an expanding Non-Medical Prescribing workforce, dedicated pharmacist input, and a substance misuse psychologist. There is access to a Substance Misuse Inpatient facility for patients requiring Tier 4 interventions. You will be working alongside Social Work colleagues and this partnership working will be enhanced with the further development of integrated locality teams within the Perth & Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership.


Perth & Kinross is a large council area with a population of approximately 151,000 spread over an area of 2041 square miles, ranging from the sparsely populated mountainous regions in the North to the more populous regions in the south, where the administrative centre of Perth is located.   Close by is the city of Dundee, which is currently undergoing a large scale riverside re-development, as well as having a well established art scene, including the internationally renowned Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre and the recently opened Victoria & Albert Museum. There are excellent transport links both north and south to Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as easy access to the mountains  and glens of the Highlands and the sandy white beaches along the stunning coastline in the east.
