The post holder will work autonomously as an expert nursing practitioner with non-resident support from the Paediatric Critical Care Consultant. Using higher levels of decision making and clinical judgement, the post holder will ensure that children and young people’s health needs are assessed; treatment and management implemented and evaluated in partnership with patients and families, and provide specialist advice to healthcare professionals, other agencies, carers, clients and relatives.

The post holder will develop strategies to improve practice and work collaboratively across healthcare boundaries, implementing and evaluating evidence based standards, guidelines and policies.

The Advanced Paediatric Nurse Practitioner (ANP) role encompasses that of expert clinician, educator and auditor.

The post holder will have specialist knowledge of Paediatric Critical Care across a range of clinical issues, underpinned by the theory and practice acquired through an ANP education programme at master’s level. 

 The post holder will demonstrate and maintain expert advanced resuscitation by acting as a lead clinician at resuscitation events.

To utilise advanced clinical skills, knowledge and experience for vital invasive procedures.

To promote the role of the ANP as an integrated member of the multi-disciplinary team, participating in the review, development and direction of the ANP role. 

To enhance the quality of the patients and families experience of Paediatric Critical Care services. 

To motivate staff to provide high standards of care by acting as a role model.
