The Digitally Enabled Workforce (DEW) team are based in different locations across Scotland and work remotely.  DEW are a dynamic, fast-paced team who enjoy what they do.  DEW are focused, agile, self-organised, and thrive on making a difference and delivering results.

The DEW team are collectively responsible for the delivery of a programme of work aligned to Scotland’s Digital Health and Care Strategy and Care in the Digital Age delivery plan.


The Role

As the Communications and Engagement Manager you will join the Digitally Enabled Workforce Team (DEW) and have a direct impact on reaching our customers, stakeholders and learners through innovative, creative communications. Leading the administration and communication requirements for the different workstreams in the delivery of the overall programme to support digitally enabling our workforce. 

This exciting role requires an individual who thinks strategically, understands how to adapt communications to the target audience, and who will be the advocate of the Digitally Enabled Workforce Team. 

With strong attention to detail and written content, you will be exceptionally organised, and an excellent communicator and influencer. You will understand communications in a digital age and will have the ability to design messaging for a national workforce, demonstrating initiative and showing your creative flare in finding new ways of communicating across health and care.


What you’ll be doing

  • Creating and delivering our communications strategy which will include evaluating the effectiveness of communications and identifying areas of development.
  • Creating incredibly high-profile communications that represent NES, Scottish Government, the Building Digital Skills and Leadership Programme, the Digitally Enabled Workforce Team, and stakeholder organisations.
  • Leading the internal and external communications required for the success of the overall programme of work, Scottish Government’s ‘Enabling, Connection and Empowering: Care in the Digital Age’ delivery plan, and other future delivery plans and strategies.
  • Leading the organisation, planning and delivery of Digital Skills and Leadership events that are local, national and across the four nations, and include participation from international leaders connected to the programme of work.
  • Inspiring the Specialist Leads in the Digitally Enabled Workforce Team and stakeholders on new and innovating ways of communicating.
  • Influencing and engaging with communication leaders in organisations across the sector.
  • Maximising the use of all communication channels and social media to build followers, including finding innovative and engaging ways of reaching the whole of the health and care workforce. 
  • Managing the Programme Officer and admin functions within the team to ensure that communications are planned, designed and delivered to an exceptionally high standard.
  • Taking accountability for the overall programme being managed effectively by the Programme Support and Admin Support functions of the team.


What you’ll bring

  • Ability to create and deliver effective communication and engagement strategies that raise the profile of work done by the team and promote activities and events at a national level.
  • A proven track record of leading communications, building and managing marketing campaigns and previous experience of building the profile of key projects across large organisations and on a national level.
  • Ability to maximise the use of all communication channels and social media.
  • Experience of evaluating the effectiveness of communications.
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders across multiple organisations.
  • Highly effective writing skills including writing and editing reports for board meetings.
  • Project management and people management skills.
  • Knowledge of the health and care sector, and organisations within.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft 365 apps and communications and design software.
