This programme is an exciting collaboration with NHS Forth Valley and Glasgow Caledonian University.

NHS Forth Valley and Glasgow Caledonian University are excited to introduce a new Return to Practice programme, enabling all previously registered Midwifery to return to the sector.  The programme will allow you to refresh your skills and return to Midwifery.

The programme will be delivered in partnership with NHS Forth Valley and will prepare you for re-registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).  You will have access to a blend of online and face to face teaching as well as practical hands on experience with patients.

You will be recruited to the programme jointly between NHS Forth Valley and Glasgow Caledonian University.  The new programme will have a limited number of Scottish Government funded places and you will be employed by the NHS Board on a temporary contract throughout the return to practice programme and paid at an Agenda for Change Band 2.

You will complete a total of 300 or 450 hours of practice which will be dependent on the length of your lapse of registration and will be discussed individually with each candidate. The practice learning hours you complete each week can be flexible, full time or part time, but must be a minimum of 22.5 hours per week up to a maximum of 37.5 hours per week. You will remain a supernumerary member of staff and be working in the capacity of a student midwife whilst undertaking the Return to Practice Program. The course will guide a practical learning experience with NHS Forth Valley, with government funding available and the opportunity for you to return to practice.

You will have the opportunity to find the confidence and make the connections to get back to the career you loved.

Applications are invited from Midwifery with a lapse of registration for the Return to Practice programme commencing September 2023.

Entry requirements:

  • Evidence of current NMC Statement of entry
  • Declaration of any NMC Order (if relevant)
  • Following successful interview, undertake and complete all required pre-employment checks
  • Commitment to fulfil the programme requirements and remain within employment for a minimum of one year within NHS Forth Valley
  •  Undertake the academic and practice elements of the programme without interruption

Our Commitment to you:

  • You programme fees will be paid in full
  • NHS Forth Valley will support you financially, meaning you will be paid as a Band 2 (£18,600 - £20,606) for the duration of the programme
  • On successful completion of the programme you will be offered employment as a registered practitioner in a substantive post in NHS Forth Valley
  •  You will receive academic and practice learning support for the duration of your programme to facilitate your return to the NMC register

What happens next?

Applications are now invited from interested individuals who are seeking to re-join the NMC register.

Candidates will be required to apply to NHS Forth Valley and, following successful interview, to Glasgow Caledonian University.
