NHS Tayside are looking to appoint a Salaried General Practitioner to provide a full range of general medical services to Brechin Health Centre. We are looking for a committed, innovative and enthusiastic Salaried General Practitioner (full or part time) to join a Board run semi-rural practice based in the Angus town of Brechin, conveniently situated within 30 minutes of both Dundee and Aberdeen.   Brechin is a small friendly town offering all local amenities including easy access to schools and good quality housing.   The town is in the unique position of being only a short drive away from the Angus Glens and coastal beaches

Working in conjunction with the Board and with the support of the multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to provide high quality primary care services for a mixed demographic population of 9,500 patients.  The post will give the opportunity to develop leadership skills and influence local service development, working within a multi disciplinary team in areas such as care of the frail elderly, and building close links with the community and other neighbouring practices. From October 2015 the practice came under Board stewardship, and we are currently working on an innovative and ambitious approach to providing health care that is fit for the future

You will have access to the facilities at nearby Stracathro Hospital, which include MRI, speciality clinics, Macmillan Care Centre and medical beds. You will have the benefit of working with neighbouring practices in Edzell and Montrose, as well as connections with community staff in local community hospitals and minor illness and injury units. In addition, 20 miles away is Ninewells Hospital, a major teaching hospital with an international reputation

Based within Angus, you will be an integral part of the practice team, with the opportunity for close working with colleagues from both health and social care. This will include named consultant led teams in psychiatry, medicine for the elderly and palliative care working across the Locality.  You will have the opportunity to lead on or contribute to the development of the range of services offered, whilst exploring new models of care to fit the needs of changing demographics.  We will be looking to support new models of working, with opportunities for extended appointment times, on the day access, and close links with community resources including community pharmacy, community nursing and local voluntary sector. This will include:

Online access for appointments, prescription requests:

  • Nurse practitioners and a highly skilled nursing team
  • Independent prescriber practice pharmacist
  • Weekly MDT meetings with community nursing, medicine for the elderly team, community pharmacist and social care teams to help pro-actively plan and manage care for frail elderly patients.
  • Protected time for personal learning and development
  • The opportunity to work with the extended health care team
  • Opportunities to become involved in locality planning
  • Opportunities to accommodate additional clinical interests that support the delivery of comprehensive out of hospital care

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced GP who wishes to consider different ways of working or for a GP looking to start out in their career, with a clear vision of how they would wish to see services develop for the future

Salary scale is £59,675 to £89,070 per annum (based on 40 hours per week). There are opportunities for provision of sessions within our local out of hours system, with appropriate salary adjustment to reflect this

Hours of work can be flexible to support work/life balance. As a Board employee, you will have the advantage of Crown indemnity (although you are encouraged to seek advice from your defence union also)

Relocation expenses up to £8,000 may be payable
