The Associate Adviser will have a significant role in contributing to NES’ objectives of working with local territorial health boards and special health boards in the provision of continuing professional development (CPD) for general practitioners and their teams. The post-holder will undertake collaborative work principally with NHS Forth Valley primary care in delivering and evaluating CPD and quality improvement methods that support GP’s and associated health care professionals. The Associate Adviser will assist with the management of CPD delivery at a local and regional level and provide support for GP appraisal and revalidation. The post will also involve close liaison with colleagues supporting doctors in difficulty, and colleagues involved in GP postgraduate vocational training across the Scotland deanery. 


This post is for 2 sessions and is based in the West of Scotland region of the Scottish deanery.  You should be medically qualified with a background in Primary Care. You will have understanding of, and experience in modern CPD methods and resources, learning needs assessment and learning evaluation. Reporting to the Assistant Director of General Practice Education (Continuing Professional Development and Performance Management) you should have excellent communication and organisational skills. 


The Scotland deanery is committed to providing high quality medical education for the workforce in keeping with the NHS Education corporate plan. 


The West of Scotland region covers five Health Board areas with a total population of 2.7 million. Within the area the region is responsible for 2,178 practitioners, 150 training practices with 341 trainers and 587 GP trainees in various stages of training and 63 doctors on the Doctor’s Retainer Scheme. In addition the Deanery has a programme of supporting established doctors who require educational support.


The post is based in Forth Valley but will cover the West of Scotland.

The post is permanent, subject to annual review. The salary will be based on the GP educator’s scale.
