The Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation (CBIR) is situated at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Dundee. CBIR is an area wide service, admitting people from across the whole of Tayside. The unit provides in-patient rehabilitation to adults aged 16-65 who have complex disability following a brain injury, and who will benefit from interdisciplinary rehabilitation before being discharged from hospital.   All patients have an individual, goal orientated programme tailored to their own needs. With assistance from their families the staff help patients to achieve their goals in areas of health, activity and wellbeing. There is a small SLT team comprising 2 FTE SLTs with support 2 days a week from one of the CBIR technical instructors.


The post holder will provide highly expert speech and language therapy management of communication and swallowing problems to individuals with a range of disorders secondary to acquired brain injuries. Out patient follow-up will be provided to those patients who live in Dundee city and liaison with local therapist working in other areas in Tayside will be provided to support them with any follow-up that patients require when they are discharged home. The psot holder will take a lead role in the service delivery and development of the rehabilitation team within the Centre for Brain Injury Rehabilitation (CBIR) for patients across Tayside. The post holder will be the lead Speech and Language Therapist for Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) for the Adult Acquired service for Tayside working closely with the AAC leads in the Paediatrics and ALD services. The successful candidate will work with local therapists and the Assistive Technology Service to manage AAC provision.


The post holder will work closely with the other senior/team lead SLTs within the service, with regard to audit, service development, innovation and strategy. The Adult Acquired SLT Service is a Tayside wide service and has regular local and regional meetings. Professional development is supported and encouraged and we provide separate line management and clinical supervision to ensure strong clinical performance.
