NHS Grampian is delighted at the prospect of recruiting two Consultant Surgeons to the General Surgery Department at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.  These full time posts (10 PA’s, 2 additional PA’s negotiable) will primarily be based at Dr Gray’s Hospital.  Specialist interest will be encouraged and there may be an opportunity, if appropriate, for interested and suitably qualified applicants to work at other hospitals within NHS Grampian.

 

Dr Gray’s Hospital is situated in Elgin, the county town of Moray. The surrounding area is considered to be of outstanding natural beauty. This post offers a unique opportunity to practice Surgery in an area with a high quality of life, excellent schools, affordable housing and superb recreational facilities.

 

The Hospital serves a population of about 132,000 and provides Emergency and Elective General Surgical Services within the Hospital and at selected community hospitals. There are good links with Aberdeen Royal Infirmary which is a Tertiary Referral and Major Trauma Centre.  Dr Gray’s Hospital is a Cancer Unit dealing mainly with Colorectal Cancer.  Supporting staff include 2 Specialist Trainees, 1 Core Trainee and 4 Foundation Doctors. The Hospital is currently investing in a cohort of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to support junior rotas and Consultant workload. There are 2 Specialist Nurses covering Oncology and Stoma Care.  In addition there are 2 Surgical First Assistants with extended skills who provide theatre assistance. The Hospital enjoys a strong association with the University of Aberdeen and takes final year medical students.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR). Applicants be in possession of FRCA.

 

The post requires wide experience of Elective and Emergency General Surgery.
