An opportunity has arisen for a salaried GP to join our small, friendly primary healthcare team at Acharacle Medical Practice.

The main practice building is a purpose-built premises in Acharacle which also houses our main dispensary and the administration team. There are two branch surgeries in Kilchoan and Strontian, housed within community buildings and with small dispensaries. Our team has 2 GPs, a practice nurse, a part-time healthcare assistant and an experienced administrative and dispensing team working under the practice manager. We are supported by an excellent district nursing team and also have close links with social work, Macmillan nursing, the Scottish Ambulance Service and the wider healthcare network in Fort William and across NHS Highland.

The practice is open 8am until 6pm, with no out of hours commitment, as this covered by a team of ANPs from the Rural Support Team, who are based in Acharacle when they are working. Shifts would be available if desired. Routine appointments are 15 minutes, with some 10 minute urgent slots at the end of surgeries. We are about an hour from the consultant led Belford hospital in Fort William which also hosts the allied health professionals and a variety of consultant led clinics. In view of the remote location there is a requirement to provide some emergency care when this is required. BASICs training is required, but can be arranged if necessary and the post does require considerable travelling.

Becoming part of this innovative and forward-thinking practice will offer the exciting opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary way, involving primary care, social care, emergency services and third sector services and to tailor provision of healthcare to the unique location. The practice covers a variety of beautiful locations across Ardnamurchan, Moidart and Sunart with wildlife in abundance. Ardnamurchan and Lochaber offer a huge range of outdoor sporting activities, dining options and cultural events. There are excellent primary schools in Acharacle, Strontian and Kilchoan and a secondary school in Strontian.

Whether you are currently coming towards the end of your training, are experienced in primary care, or are looking for a different working environment please contact us for an informal chat to find out more.

Informal enquiries will be welcomed by Marie Law, District Manager for Lochaber (01397 709841 or 07825281905 or email marie.law@nhs.net).
