This is an opportunity for an experienced HCPC registered Healthcare scientist to work in a busy department which provides a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Tayside and NE Fife and South Grampian.


We are looking for a member of staff that can demonstrate team spirit, initiative, flexibility and  have proven ability to support further development of the service. You will work with a considerable degree of autonomy and have the responsibility for providing professional, scientific and technical leadership, and will be managing a team of senior BMS staff.

 

This postholder manages the POCT/NPT service within the Diagnostics Labs (Blood Sciences & Microbiology) at Ninewells to deliver a patient focussed POCT service to ISO accreditation standards. The department also holds IBMS Training lab approval until 2020. The postholder will also be expected to liaise closely with the Service Managers and clinicians across the laboratory disciplines and with services in both primary and secondary care and also to support the training of all grades of laboratory and ward based staff.


The management of POCT is primarily based within the lab block in Ninewells Hospital in a state of the art specialist laboratory with POCellerator and Cobas Infinity Software; Siemens Blood Gas analysers, Roche Blood Glucose analysers, Abbott Ketone meters, Signature Elite Coagulation and Roche LIAT POCT PCR flu analysers.


The Diagnostics labs analyse a range samples using a range of analysers including manual and semi automated with CentraLink POCellerator and Cobas Infinity Software and full cross discipline working.


As the postholder you will be expected to work closely with other Service Managers to attain ISO 22870 and ensure continued ISO 15189 accreditation; this post does not involve Out of Hours working, but may include some weekend, early evening and Public Holiday management duties along with potential travel to multiple sites in the Health Board.


You must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and must possess a M.Sc. or FIBMS with either the IBMS Specialist portfolio, or at least 3 years post registration laboratory experience and have worked at BMS Band 7 [Senior BMS] in a laboratory discipline delivering Point of Care repertoire.

Hours of work are: The hours will normally be 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, but an hour’s overtime per day will be required during the vaccine campaigns. Saturday working may also be required.
