Job Advert

Medicines homecare is the on-going supply of medicines and associated services, initiated by a hospital prescriber, direct to a patient’s home. A unique opportunity has arisen for a pharmacist to join the National Procurement pharmacy team as national pharmacy lead on medicines homecare.

Working with a broad range of stakeholders including Health Boards, homecare providers and pharmaceutical manufacturers, the post-holder will have a key role in supporting Health Boards to develop new services and to improve the governance and management of established services.

The post-holder is commercially aware with excellent negotiating skills and attention to detail; a key part of the role is working with homecare providers to draft and agree detailed service level agreements for new services. The post-holder is also a strategic thinker and excellent communicator with practical experience of facilitating change; in addition to acting as professional secretary to the NHS Scotland Medicines Homecare National Governance and Management Group, the post-holder represents Scotland on the UK-level National Homecare Medicines Committee.

A significant proportion of medicine homecare is commissioned by manufacturers of in-patent medicines. The post-holder will also work in partnership with procurement professionals and NHS stakeholders to undertake broader work to support the introduction of new medicines including assessing how the entry of new medicines may impact on the prescribing of therapeutic alternatives and supporting the development and implementation of strategies that ensure the NHS maximises the benefits from the introduction of new medicines.

Experience of pharmacy service development, NHS commissioning of services or medicines homecare is desirable but not essential. This post would suit an individual that already has experience working at a senior level.

This is a highly rewarding role that offers variety and the opportunity to have a national impact. If you’ve never considered a role like this before, why not explore it and see if it might be for you?

Candidates must have current GPC registration at the time of applying.

Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits.
