Who We Are

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is an education and training body and a special health board within NHS Scotland, with responsibility of developing and delivering education and training for the healthcare workforce in Scotland.


NMAHP Women, Children, Young People and Families (WCYPF) team is seeking to appoint  high performing, highly motivated team members, to assist in the development, coordination and contribution to a range of programmes. The particular focus will be on education to support the maternity care workforce  through the Scottish Multiprofessional Maternity Development Programme (SMMDP) and to contribute to education to support the implementation of  ‘Best start’.  

 

The WCYPF team deliver a suite of post-registration courses developed to support maternity service professionals and other associated professionals to meet the current changing focus of maternity services and care throughout Scotland. The courses are delivered in local centres working to a nationally agreed curriculum. 


The successful candidates will ensure high quality education and training is delivered in a multiprofessional environment, participating in the training of instructors / facilitators and contributing to other related project work within the WCYPF team. The successful candidates should have the relevant clinical knowledge to deliver the range of maternity and neonatal courses offered by the programme and should be experienced in clinical instruction.

The core function of the NMAHP Directorate is to support the education, training and continuing professional development of nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, health and social care chaplains and their support workers.  The Directorate is also responsible for providing education, training and workforce development across wider professional groups and disciplines, often in partnership with other agencies, to support key policy imperatives such as Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI), dementia and health and social care integration. 


What you'll do

The purpose of these posts are to lead the delivery of educational courses, within a programme of work, which has a diverse range of projects. These projects contribute to the development of educational solutions for workforce development. The postholder will typically lead the delivery of initiatives in different ways, for example:  

  • Plan, support, initiate, facilitate and monitor educational projects  
  • Lead on a specific programme area  
  • Design and deliver education and training programmes  

 

To lead, coordinate and contribute to the suite of programmes on behalf of the Scottish Multiprofessional Maternity Development Programme (SMMDP) and the wider women, childrens, young people and families team.

To ensure that a high-quality education and training is delivered in a multiprofessional environment. Participate in the training of additional trainers for the suite of courses delivered by the SMMDP. 


Key tasks will include but are not restricted to;

  1. Liaise closely with the Principal educator for midwifery to ensure the quality of the courses continually evolves in response to new evidence and to meet the needs of maternity care professionals. 
  1. Lead the faculty of multiprofessional trainers through initial briefings,observing sessions  and providing constructive feedback.  This will promote consistency of delivery and candidate assessment.  
  1. Ensure all candidates’ have completed the required pre-course work and assessments and that the course is facilitated efficiently to support the quality of candidates learning experience.  
  1. Participate in all sessions to be able to accommodate  the unexpected absence of one of the trainers. 
  2. Mark written assessments, coordinate clinical assessments of candidates and provide support should candidates not achieve course objectives.  
  1. Prepare course reports and evaluations with recommendations for improvements.  


What you'll bring

  • Post holder must be an experienced Registered Midwife
  • Substantial post-registration experience    
  • Experience of working in an educationally focussed environment    
  • Experience of facilitation      
  • Working within a multidisciplinary environment       
  • Able to instruct on both maternity and neonatal courses                


The posts will have a flexible base, although extensive travel around Scotland will be required.
