We are looking for a transformational and visionary leader, who will be the most senior advocate for public health across the organisation and population served by the post. It is a Board level appointment with executive responsibilities working at the heart of NHS Highland, and working closely with Highland and Argyll & Bute Councils and other community planning partners.

This is your opportunity to shape and drive improvement in the health and wellbeing of the residents and communities of the Highlands of Scotland. You need to fully understand and be committed to addressing the relationships and cultures of organisations that impact on the wider determinants of health and bring a high level of intellectual rigour and personal credibility to the collaborative and commissioning agendas.

The Board serves a population of 310,000 spread from Caithness to Campbeltown with budget of £706 million. A high proportion of local people live in small remote communities, with all the challenges of sustainability, rural deprivation and access to services that brings.

You will need you to provide leadership for a cohesive and active public health team and community across both Highland and the North of Scotland, working with a wide range of partners from the public, third and academic sectors, to build on existing work around reducing inequalities in health and supporting the commissioning agenda.

We are seeking a special person to commit to the Highlands, who will share our journey of transforming and integrating health and social care for the local people. As an experienced professional leader with well-developed influencing and communication skills, you will need to be excited about this unique opportunity to tackle the issues facing remote and rural communities in the most beautiful part of Scotland. You will be required to utilise every part of your high level strategic, technical and communication abilities and must be able to build trusting relationships. You will have current specialist registration with the General Medical Council with a license to practice.

As the largest integrated Board area in Scotland covering 41% of the land mass of Scotland you will need to like driving, and be able to build trusting long distance relationships with colleagues.

You will report directly to the Board Chief Executive, with whom you will work closely on a daily basis, contributing to the development and management of the overall Corporate Agenda and taking the lead on a wide range of Board priorities.  The post will involve participation in the on-call rota on a 1 in 6 basis.

The Highlands offer an excellent quality of life, an area of outstanding natural beauty with a range of cultural, musical, leisure and sporting opportunities throughout the year. Inverness, which is rapidly expanding is the ‘happiest’ city in Scotland with well-established road, rail and air links. Schools in the Highlands are rated very highly, crime rates are the lowest in Scotland and there is a wide range of urban, suburban and rural property within easy commuting distance of Inverness. Do come and join us here.

For informal discussion, please contact Paul Hawkins, Board Chief Executive, on 01463 704977 or Fiona Hogg, Director of Human Resources on 01463 704708.

Closing date for receipt of completed applications: Sunday 15th March 2020

Interviews will be held in Inverness on Friday 24th April 2020
