Are you a leading edge pharmacist ready to take on a new challenge? Do you want to be part of a new team that will re-shape primary care services?


We are recruiting to multiple posts for Prescribing Support Pharmacists. This exciting role will involve working with GPs and primary care clinical teams to support and improve patient care. This role will involve you working as part of a multi-disciplinary team within GP practice and will see you taking on a prescribing role and developing your own clinical caseload in line with ‘Achieving excellence in pharmaceutical care’ objectives and pharmacotherapy. Applicants should be qualified independent prescribers or be prepared to work towards this qualification. The scope of these posts is NHS Lanarkshire (NHSL) Board wide. Your role will be to work as a member of the NHSL prescribing support team. The objectives of the team are to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of prescribing and medicines use for patients across NHSL as well as delivering pharmacotherapy in line with the GMS 2018 contract. You will work closely with GPs, other practice staff, community pharmacists, care home staff, members of the primary healthcare multi-disciplinary team and central team colleagues in supporting the development and application of high quality, safe, cost effective, rational and evidence based prescribing in the Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP). You will work within GP practices, care homes and other healthcare settings to provide individualised clinical care to patients to improve the safety and effectiveness of their medicines, prescribing where appropriate. You should have a sound clinical knowledge, good IT skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. You will work on joint projects/initiatives within the HSCP as required and promote awareness of prescribing management issues.

You will have a Masters degree in Pharmacy or equivalent and be on the practising register of the General Pharmaceutical Council, and be able to demonstrate a commitment to Continuing Professional Development. You must have some post registration experience, preferably from a variety of settings. You will be required to travel between GP practices and other healthcare settings to carry out the duties of this post. Experience of directly working with primary care teams and knowledge of GP systems would be advantageous.
