An opportunity has arisen for a team leader to join NHS Forth Valley school nursing service. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual with visionary leadership skills.

The Scottish Government refocused the roles of school nurses in Scotland and is committed to improving the health and well-being of school aged children and young people through the delivery of the 10 priorities of the school nursing pathway. NHS Forth Valley’s school nursing service strives to improve children and young people’s well-being outcomes by focusing on keeping the child or young person at the centre of our care in alignment with the Scottish Government’s Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) principles, the promotion and incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and delivery of the Scottish Government’s The Promise for our care experienced children and young people.

The post holder will work in partnership with school nurses, family support workers primary care, and multiagency colleagues to deliver the school nursing pathways for school aged children across the 3 local authority areas across Forth Valley. The role of Team Leader is to ensure that the service is delivered in a safe and effective manner to the necessary standards and governance structures.

The successful candidate will provide leadership and operational management of the school nursing service as delegated by the Department Manager. They will divide their time between managerial and clinical duties. The clinical component consists of the provision of formal clinical supervision sessions for qualified school nurses.

Applicants must be educated to degree level and be a first level registered nurse or midwife with an active post registration SCPHN and entry to part 3 of the NMC register with experience of working with the school aged population and school health teams. Successful candidates will possess relevant post registration experience and evidence of ongoing professional development.

A working knowledge of child protection systems is a requirement for this post and an understanding of IT systems is essential.

We offer training, induction, and development opportunities to support personal and professional development and candidates must be willing to undertake further training in clinical supervision if they do not already possess these skills.

Ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential for this post.
