The Acute Admissions Unit (AAU) is a medical admissions ward which receives acutely unwell patients requiring admission into the hospital primarily from the ED, Urgent Care centre, GP’s and out of hour’s services.
We are seeking highly motivated band 5 registered nurses to join our skilled and friendly team. Our patients are admitted with a wide variety of medical problems including Cardiac, Respiratory, Oncology, Haematology, Endocrine, Neurology and Toxicology and they often arrive with us in the acute phase of their illnesses and will usually require further stabilisation, interventions and observation until they are stable enough to move to another ward or be discharged home. For this reason you must have excellent assessment and communication skills and have a good level of clinical acumen in order to ensure that our patients receive safe, high quality person centred care that we expect. Experience of managing the acutely unwell, deteriorating patient is desirable.
We have a particular passion for the training and development of our staff and students so you must have a commitment to mentoring, preceptoring and facilitation of development on the ward. You must also be open in terms of the development of your own skills. All nurses are supported by visible clinical senior nursing teams including a clinical Dr of Nursing, Clinical Nurse Mangers, Senior Charge Nurses, Clinical Nurse Educator, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Specialist Nurses. You will have good opportunities to take part in the multitude of training and development opportunities that the organisation and ward offers.
The admissions ward is a busy, dynamic environment and is often fast paced with high turnover patients. You must be a hardworking, highly motivated individual and be a role model for patient safety and high quality, compassionate care. You will be expected to work a flexible work pattern which includes days, night, weekend and public holiday rotation.
