We are recruiting for a Library Assistant to work within the NHS Forth Valley Library Service.

The Library Assistant will support the Librarian in the provision of a high-quality library service for health and social care colleagues working across the Forth Valley area, including medical and other healthcare students on placement.

The postholder will primarily be based in the library at Forth Valley Royal Hospital and will be responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of the library, providing practical and administrative support and carrying out a range of duties in response to the needs of the service. This will include staffing the library front desk and supporting library patrons to make effective use of the service and available resources, overseeing circulation of stock, answering telephone and email enquiries, and supporting with promotional activities.

The successful candidate will have a library/information/knowledge related qualification, or have achieved CILIP certification/chartership, or have demonstrable experience in a relevant setting. They will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as IT skills including experience of using Microsoft Office packages. The post will also require an understanding of copyright and data protection issues, as well as good organisational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritise workload. Finally, an interest in and awareness of current trends in the wider library/information field and previous experience of using a Library Management System would be advantageous.

The Library Service sits within Medical Education. We are a friendly, supportive team and appropriate training will be provided to the successful candidate.

The duties of this post require the successful candidate to complete a Standard Police Act Disclosure Scotland Check.
