Job Advert

Applications are invited for Clinical Development Fellow posts at Midpark Hospital, Dumfries in the specialty of Psychiatry.

The posts are available from 5 August 2020 for 6-12 months.  These posts are aimed at those doctors who have recently completed their foundation programme or core training.

At Midpark Hospital, medical teams across all wards and departments aim to provide high quality medical education, with all trainees receiving clinical and educational supervision along with regular teaching sessions.  This is delivered in a supportive and friendly environment.  NHS Dumfries & Galloway has a strong sense of community as does the population it serves.

These posts will afford successful applicants the opportunity to gain wide experience in Psychiatry and develop clinical skills, while enjoying protected and mentored development time.  We are a friendly, supportive and enthusiastic team, and are aiming to recruit like-minded individuals.

Successful candidates will be contracted for 40 hours per week. Clinical work will be based in Psychiatry and will include Out of Hours (OOH) work (1 in 10 rota with compensatory rest day post on call) in addition to the core 40 hour per week contract.  The post holder will be paid at the core trainee level based on their previous experience. A banding supplement relevant to the OOH component of the rotas will be paid in addition to the basic salary.

We anticipate that many of our CDFs will want to teach; if so, we will encourage them to enrol in Edinburgh’s Clinical Educator Programme, successful completion of which will satisfy the GMC’s requirements to be recognised as a trainer.  Midpark Hospital teaches medical students from Edinburgh and Dundee Universities (in 4th and 5th years) and ScotGEM students (in 2nd and 3rd years); ScotGEM is a 4 year postgraduate degree run by St Andrew’s and Dundee Universities that is based mainly in primary care with secondary care ‘bursts’.  CDFs will find there are abundant opportunities to teach and to mentor students.

The region offers beautiful countryside, from rugged cliffs and sandy beaches to forests, hills and rolling plains. There is a wide range of activities on offer, with water sports, fishing, bird watching, golf, mountain-biking or cycling along the network of rural roads, Scotland’s National Booktown and its annual book festival, and much, much more.  House prices are low, schools are good and you are within a couple of hours of Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Lake District and Newcastle.

Prospective candidates will require to be on the GMC Register with a licence to practise.
