SENIOR PHARMACIST

            DISPENSARY MANAGER/CLINICAL PHARMACIST with EDC

Band 7

Hours: 37.50 per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Dispensary manager with a specialist clinical pharmacist commitment to join the mental health team delivering and developing pharmacy services to the Royal Edinburgh and Associated Services Division. The Royal Edinburgh Hospital and Associated Services (REAS) provides acute psychiatric and mental health services, which also includes the treatment of individuals with learning disabilities, dementia and also the management of young people’s mental health. The REH site is continuing to expand following the opening of the new mental health hospital in August 2017, with further phases planned and new services being developed. The site will also be the first to implement Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HEPMA) in NHS Lothian from spring 2020.

The post holder will be responsible for the daily management of a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and technical support staff, leading the strategic development of dispensing activities. In addition, the post holder will work as part of a team of clinical pharmacists providing a service to identified Mental Health directorates. Key areas for patient focused care include provision of pharmaceutical care to vulnerable patients, medication history reviews, provision of a medicines information service, maintenance of a high-dose antipsychotic monitoring system, monitoring adherence to the Mental Health Act, patient/carer education. The successful provision of these services relies on multidisciplinary working.   The post holder will also have close links with other members of the pharmacy team across NHS Lothian.

Candidates must be a UK registered pharmacist with relevant postgraduate clinical experience in delivery of pharmaceutical care in a secondary or primary care setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required along with sound clinical knowledge and good IT skills. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland check.
