Join our surgical pharmacy team and have the opportunity to specialise in critical care and surgical specialties.

Contact us to learn more, but day-to-day roles and responsibilities include:

  1. Working as an active member of the multidisciplinary team to provide inpatient services for our 19 bedded critical care unit
  2. Having the opportunity to join the daily multidisciplinary nutrition team ward round and actively influencing and independently prescribing parenteral nutrition
  3. Providing inpatient services in a senior pharmacist supportive role to general surgical wards which include:
    • Colorectal
    • Surgical specialties including urology, ophthalmology, and OMFS
    • Orthopaedics – trauma and elective services
  4. Taking the lead for a defined patient group within the surgical directorate. This will include being responsible for the training of rotational pharmacists in this area and helping develop this service in line with the health boards vision. This is an excellent opportunity to prepare for advanced practice by developing clinical expertise, leadership skills, and contribute to managing change and improving NHS services.

The surgical directorate has many exciting opportunities for service development which the post holder can get involved in – including the opening of our National Treatment Centre for elective orthopaedic procedures.

Post-graduate education (including prescribing, diploma, and MSc) is actively encouraged and supported within FV pharmacy.

The clinical pharmacist team have excellent support from one of the largest and most established clinical pharmacy technician teams who we are working with closely to take their service to the next level. Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HePMA) has been rolled out across NHS FV since 2016 which keeps us at the forefront of healthcare provision in line with Scottish Government aims.

Our pharmacy team is dedicated, supportive, and friendly. We are forward thinking and look to improve the experience of both patients and staff. We enjoy social events, group dog walks, our weekly cake club, and book club. The hospital, which is surrounded by woods and lochs, provides many activities to support healthy lives for staff such as running and cycling clubs. Larbert is within 40 minutes of Edinburgh and Glasgow and has excellent road and rail links and there may also be opportunity for car share.

The successful post holder will be expected to contribute to on-call, weekend, and public holiday services.

Ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential for this post.
