We have an exceptional career opportunity for an experienced, high calibre pharmacist to join the Pharmacy team in Forth Valley Royal Hospital on a 12 month fixed term or secondment. This post is perfect for a pharmacist ready to advance their career and develop their leadership and clinical skills.

The successful candidate will deliver the pharmacist-led Covid-19 service while the substantive post holder is on maternity leave. The clinic assesses patients throughout NHS Forth Valley in the ultra-high risk group and provides anti-viral treatment to improve patient outcomes. This will enable the postholder to work autonomously and utilise clinical skills and prescribing. Keeping abreast of the latest Covid-19 evidence and information is vital given the ever-evolving nature of Covid-19 management, and you will network with clinicians throughout the country working within the specialty. Treatment outcomes from our clinic will help shape the future management of Covid-19 within the NHS.

The post holder will work within a wider team to deliver telephone clinics, and there will be opportunities to join key groups throughout the organisation and contribute to the governance agenda.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic senior pharmacist to make a difference and contribute to delivering advanced clinical services. You will need to be flexible, organised, work well within a team and have a positive, ‘can do’ attitude.  You need to enjoy working in a busy challenging environment, be able to manage multiple competing priorities and deliver against tight deadlines. You will have excellent communication skills, be an enthusiastic educator and have proven multidisciplinary influencing skills. You will be a highly specialist practitioner, qualified as an independent prescriber with the necessary experience to provide high quality patient-centred care.

You will be a valued member of the wider pharmacy team. You will work 5 days over 7. Part time hours will be considered.

Key activities of the post are:

  • Work as an expert pharmacist, contributing to advanced level decision making on a daily basis
  • Triage high risk patients who have tested positive for COVID, through clinic sessions
  • Oversee and manage services and guidelines concerning the use of COVID treatments.
  • Extend the boundaries of clinical practice by continually developing quality improvement initiatives through multi-disciplinary working.
  • Represent the pharmacy team within NHS Forth Valley, nationally and across interface boundaries.
  • Participate in clinical audit, education and research, risk management and clinical guideline development.
  • Contributing to core service delivery, alongside the rest of the pharmacy team

The pharmacy service within NHS Forth Valley is highly regarded across the organisation with staff working closely within multi-disciplinary teams. The department is forward thinking and constantly seeking improvement. We have many opportunities for personal development. The Pharmacy Department makes use of modern technologies including robotics and we have fully implemented Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HEPMA) throughout the health board.

The duties of this post require the successful candidate to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.  More information on this scheme can be found at www.disclosurescotland.co.uk

We are a friendly, dedicated and supportive team. The hospital, which is situated surrounded by woods and lochs, provides many activities to support healthy lives for staff such as yoga and cycling clubs. Larbert is within 40 minutes of Edinburgh and Glasgow and has excellent road and rail links.
