SALARIED GENERAL PRACTITIONER WITH AN INTEREST IN ACUTE (INTERNAL) MEDICINE
Part-Time (Up to 16hrs per week)
Salary – from £73,583 to £84,013 (pro rata as applicable)

We are looking for a motivated and innovative salaried General Practitioner, already employed within NHS Forth Valley, to work in the Acute Medical Unit at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.


The Acute Medicine Unit at FVRH is one of the largest in Scotland, consisting of 54 beds plus 16 assessment spaces and a dedicated area for Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC)/Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC).


The successful applicant will work as an integral member of our multidisciplinary team, comprising of nursing staff, advanced nurse practitioners, pharmacists and trainee medical staff along with four substantive Consultant Physicians in Acute Medicine.


As this is a new post, we can offer a high degree of flexibility to the right candidate regarding specific roles and responsibilities. The post will be primarily based within the Clinical Assessment Unit (CAU) for up to 4 sessions per week (which could be fixed or floating). The major roles of the successful candidate will include (but not be limited to)

  • Working alongside other members of the Acute Medicine multi-disciplinary team to deliver high quality healthcare in the AMU
  • A formal liaison role between primary care and secondary care (acute internal medicine) looking at how we can move towards frictionless care
  •  Developing clinical protocols which span the primary care/secondary care (acute internal medicine) interface
  • Contributing to clinical governance and quality improvement within the AMU at FVRH
  • Contributing to the ongoing education of the multidisciplinary team in AMU at FVRH


Applicants will be registered with the General Medical Council and the General Practitioner Register by the time of appointment. Applicants are required to have evidence of recent continued academic and professional development. Excellent, communication, listening and organisational skills are essential.
