Clinical Development Fellowship (CDF) – Cardiology

Full time (40 hours per week)

Fixed term until 5th August 2025

Salary Scale - £40,995 - £64,461 per annum (pro rata if part time)

Applications are invited from trainee doctors having recently completed Core Medical Training (CMT) or UK Foundation Programmes to apply for the positions of Cardiology Clinical Development Fellows (CDF).

This innovative post offers working in the Cardiology Department at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. In addition CDFs will have eight hours per week of development time and in-house training in Cardiology and Internal Medicine. This post would be suitable for an individual with an interest in Cardiology either as a future career or to support an interest in other acute medical specialties including geriatrics, intensive care medicine or emergency medicine. The department has excellent local services for general cardiology, cardiac devices, including complex device implantation, advanced echocardiography and CT coronary angiography and has a strong interest in heart failure, inherited cardiac conditions and adult congenital heart disease. We also have a strong track record in quality improvement (QI) and would provide QI education and support around QI work to a successful applicant.

The Cardiology Department at NHS Forth Valley aims to provide safe, person-centred and sustainable cardiology services with and for the people of Forth Valley. The service functions as an integrated unit with all members contributing to a team-based approach to patient care. There are regular weekly education sessions, and specialist MDTs in echocardiography, heart failure and cardiac devices. The CDF appointment will play an important role in the development and continuous improvement of Cardiology services through participation in service improvement and QI work. We also participate in a variety of clinical trials and support of these would be important.

In addition to the consultant workforce, the Cardiology senior team includes a Consultant Nurse/Cardiology Department Manager and a Cardiology Investigations Manager. The department is supported by Advanced Nurse Practitioners (Heart Failure), additional Advanced Nurse Practitioners supporting chest pain assessment and a multidisciplinary Cardiac Rehabilitation Team. We also have a team of Specialist and Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologists (EHRA and BSE accredited).

NHS Forth Valley provides acute services for a population of 310,000 people in Central Scotland. Forth Valley Royal Hospital is one of the most modern and well-equipped hospitals in Europe. The Cardiology Department is purpose-built and includes an integrated outpatient suite hosting facilities for Cardiac Investigations including echocardiography, exercise tolerance testing and rhythm management. It is adjacent to a 14-bedded Cardiology Ward and an ambulatory Cardiology Day Unit accommodating six patients and delivering services around chest pain, rhythm management, transoesophageal echocardiography and CT coronary angiography. Coronary care use beds are hosted in the adjacent critical care unit. Inpatient heart failure services are provided by our team of heart failure nurses.

Candidates are encouraged to visit the Department and meet our staff. Informal enquiries to:

Dr Clare Murphy, Consultant Cardiologist / Cardiology Clinical Lead, tel. no 01324 566832

or Mrs Catherine Mondoa, Consultant Nurse and Cardiology Department Manager, tel. no 01324 566980
