We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic Surgical 1st Assistants to join our theatre team.

The Surgical 1st Assistant is required to ensure the delivery of high quality, patient focussed services in theatre, through high level skills, effective leadership and collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team as well as the efficient use of Theatres through timetable scheduling and use of Theatre Management System data and reports.

NHS Forth Valley is the largest employer in the area with approximately 8000 staff from a wide range of professional and support occupations. Currently services are provided on one acute hospital, four community hospitals and fifty-six health centres.  Acute services are based in purpose built 860 bedded Forth Valley Royal Hospital which opened in 2011 and provides in-patient and out-patient services for approximately 300 000. Forth Valley Royal Theatres provide care to patients undergoing a wide range of procedures both elective and emergency, including Ophthalmic, General, Orthopaedic, Trauma, ENT, Gynaecology & Obstetrics. Day Case Ophthalmology Theatre at Falkirk Community Hospital is also within our remit.

The applicant should have previous experience as Surgical First Assistant. The applicant may be from a Nursing or ODP background.

Nurses must hold First Level Registration with a Degree in nursing studies or a Diploma, completed Advanced Scrub Practitioner course Part 1 and Part 2 plus accredited additional studies / qualifications equivalent to a degree.

ODP’s must be Registered Operating Department Practitioners with a Degree in Operating Department Practice or Diploma / SVQ/ City & Guilds and completed Advanced Scrub Practitioner course Part 1 and Part 2 plus accredited additional studies / qualifications equivalent to a degree.

The flexibility to work as the situation and service requires would be an essential aspect of this post.
