NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) works at the very heart of the health service in Scotland, providing a diverse range of services to ensure frontline patient care is delivered effectively. As well as direct services such as blood transfusion and national screening programmes, the Agency provides a wide range of support services such as: collation, interpretation and dissemination of information; payment of primary care practitioners; surveillance of infectious and communicable diseases; national procurement; counter fraud services and provision of expert legal services.

The Business Intelligence Department, which consists of a team of 2 systems analysts and 27 technical specialists, is part of the Architecture and Solutions tower of the 300-odd strong Digital and Security Strategic Business Unit (SBU). The team delivers innovative Business Intelligence solutions used by managers, clinicians, statisticians and researchers across the Scotland.  Current technologies include Oracle Exadata data warehousing, data virtualisation, Tableau data visualisation and Business Objects reporting. A technical modernisation programme is in progress to enhance and expand the Business Intelligence capabilities by implementing big data capabilities, advanced analytical capabilities, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain valuable industry experience in Business Intelligence – an exciting, fast growing discipline rated strategically important in 9 out of 10 organisations (Gartner).

The student will work within the Business Intelligence team to develop and support business intelligence applications.

Tasks will include:

•    Liaising with business users to gather and analyse requirements
