Job Advert

Are you looking to make a difference to patient care in Scotland?  Do you enjoy helping others develop their clinical careers?  Do you want the opportunity to work in clinical education within a dynamic and fast changing ambulance service?

As we reach the completion of our 2020 strategy, the Scottish Ambulance Service is continuing to develop the way it delivers education to student technicians and ambulance care assistants through the Vocational programme which is being delivered across Scotland at our three regional Clinical Education Centres.  The Education & Professional Development Department (EPDD) will be educating / training in the region of 200 student technicians per year through these centres spread across Scotland.

To support this delivery, we are seeking to recruit exceptional candidates to join the education and professional development team.  As well as helping to deliver the vocational training you will also be involved in supporting staff within the regions with their professional development.  This includes delivering Learning in Practice (face to face clinical education), return to work sessions, driver training and developing individual action plans for staff requiring support.  As a Clinical Training Officer you will be joining a team of experienced staff already working in these roles across Scotland.  Therefore, we are looking for dynamic, flexible, enthusiastic individuals who can work as part of our established busy team.

The candidate must be a registered HCPC Paramedic who must hold a first degree or be currently working towards one (already registered on a programme).  In addition they should hold, or be willing to commence:

  • a Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA),
  • an appropriate level of teaching qualification such as a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Teaching or PGCERT in education
  • Level 3 Certificate in Response Ambulance Driving (CERAD).

You should be able to demonstrate previous experience of delivering education to students studying at SCQF level 6 and 7.

The successful candidates will be based at our Elgin Clinical Education Centre, and will spend most of their time delivering VQ courses and Learning in Practice (LiP) training.  They will be expected to support other programmes within the Education and Professional Development Department and work as part of the wider educational team when required.  Successful candidates will be expected to practice clinically to maintain their Paramedic/HCPC skill set.

In return for commitment to a very busy department the successful candidates will have access to further professional development and an opportunity to work with an experienced and motivated team.  They will also have scheduled clinical practice time, be able to contribute to the wider direction of travel of the department and work in an environment where the patient is at the heart of everything we do.
