You should be a highly experienced practitioner taking a lead role in the specialist area, managing complex and specialist caseload independently, providing expert clinical intervention – including assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating specialist SLT intervention. You will provide teaching and advice to other professionals, SLTs, staff and family carers, undergraduate and postgraduate students. You will undertake research, audit and development in specialist areas. You will supervise the work of SLTs, SLT students and health care support workers. You will be the sole speech therapist accountable for own professional actions. You will provide specialist communication advice and consultation to wider NHS and other agencies. At this level you would be expected to have responsibility for caseload supervision of lower graded staff. It is essential that you have a relevant first level degree or equivalent e.g. BSc. BEd., BA, Post Graduate Degree and that you are currently registered with HPC. You should have a qualification to practise as SLT – obtained either as a clinical qualification alongside degree or via a 2 year post-graduate course. You should have substantial experience working as an SLT in this specialism and/or in an area where clients with similar disorders may present. The shift pattern for this post is Monday – Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm.
