Job Advert

We have an exciting opportunity for a part-time (7.5 hours) health visitor to join our team in a permanent post working 1 day a week. The main role for the Health Visitor (HV) is to deliver the National Practice Model for all babies resident in the West of Scotland Mother and Baby Mental Unit (MBU). You will promote a healthy lifestyle within the population of the Perinatal Mental Health Service giving particular attention to the identified health needs of the family in respect of the effect of mental illness on parenting, child development and relationships, using the principles of GIRFEC.  You will have a responsibility to monitor the child’s wellbeing and assess if a need is identified - working in partnership with the child’s family and all involved agencies to produce a child’s plan which will require to be monitored. You will be an autonomous practitioner who will practice within the legal and ethical framework of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and national legislation, and who has overall responsibility for the supervision/management of a health visiting caseload whilst baby is on MBU with mother, being accountable for the quality of care delivered through robust assessment, referral and communication processes and implementation of evidence based practice interventions to address need. This includes responsibility for the day to day delegation and reviewing of work undertaken by Nursery Nurse team members. Liaise and update with locally allocated HV.  You will work collectively within multi-disciplinary/agency teams to identify, plan for and address the wider Public Health needs of the Health Improvement Agenda. You will require skills such as the provision of highly specialised advice, parenting skills, health promotion, health education, psycho-social interventions and immunisation.  At times high-level health visiting interventions are required when dealing with issues such as child protection, domestic abuse, addictions, perinatal illness, and children affected by disability and/or life limiting illnesses. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the  NMC register holding post-registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing. You will be educated to masters level in a relevant nursing area or can demonstrate an equivelent level of knowledge gained through NES models or experience.
