An opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Scientist Practioner Specialist to join the Laboratory Genetics department, which forms part of the West of Scotland Center for Genomic Medicine. Genetic Services provides a comprehensive diagnostic genetic service for the patients of the West of Scotland (population >2.7 million) and as part of the Scottish Genetics Laboratories Consortium and the Scottish Molecular Pathology Consortium, and specialised testing for particular disorders to the whole of Scotland, the UK and overseas.  Based at the state of the art Laboratory Medicine building at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, the Laboratory Genetics department is responsible for the specialist diagnosis and/ or monitoring of patients with constitutional (prenatal and postnatal) and acquired (malignancy) genetic abnormalities.  You will join our team of >100 scientific and technical staff. You will be required to take responsibility for the complex analysis and reporting of a range of genetic disorders, working effectively with clinical scientists and technical staff wehn doing so. Good communication, team working and supervisory skills are essential.

It is essential that you have a BSc (Hons) in biological science and a post graduate qualification to diploma level or equivelent level of knowledge. State registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is desirable. You should have experience in a genetic diagnostic laboratory and with diagnostic techniques.


The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday - 9.00am to 5.00pm. We have both permanent and fixed term 24 month posts avaialble at this moment.
