The Consultant Clinical Psychologist is responsible for the development and delivery of a highly specialised Clinical Psychology service to older people admitted to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s(GGC) 21 OPMH in-patient wards. They will lead a team of psychologists who will scope current provision/need in in-patient services; work with stakeholders to plan the development of a matched and stepped care model of Psychological Interventions and Therapies provision (PI/PTs); provide staff training, supervision and implementation support; evaluate the impact of service improvements; and deliver a highly specialist psychological therapy service for clients with the most complex presentations.

You will fulfill the responsibilities of Clinical Lead for the In-patient Older People's Psychology Team, including operational management responsibilities for staff working within the service. You will work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service. You will ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical delivery and professional supervision and support of all other staff within the service for which the post holder has designated responsibility, including clear systems for effective recruitment, professional appraisal, and the identification of CPO needs across the service/ team. You will act as a highly specialist resource to the wider professional community and, as a major requirement of the job, to carry out research activities, audit, policy and service development.

You will be a Clinical Psychologist with extensive knowledge skills and experience gained from working in specialist older people's mental health services over a number of years. They will have experience of undertaking clinical leadership roles within multi-disciplinary or multi-agency contexts; and providing consultation and supervision to colleagues on psychological aspects of care.

The NHS GG&C OPMH In-patient Psychology Team is hosted within the Older People’s Psychology Service, which provides a highly specialist service to older people within the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area.  The mental health arm of the service
is delivered through participation in Community  Mental Health Teams for Older People around the health board area.  The department also includes an Acute Hospital Liaison Clinical Psychology service for older people in acute hospital settings; a Rehab Clinical Psychology service for older people accessing physical health day hospital services; the GG&C Young Onset Dementia service; a Care Home Liaison Psychology Service in Glasgow HSCP; and the OPTIMAL Team, tasked with widening access to evidence­ based PI/PTs across GG&C.
You will be a senior member of this psychology department and will ensure development and delivery of a specialist in-patient psychology service to clients following referral by colleagues working in OPMH wards across NHS GG&C. Professional and operational management is via the Older People's Psychology Service and the Psychology Directorate. The post reports to the Professional Lead for the Older People's Psychology Service.  You will be required to provide Clinical Psychology input across the service area and at different bases as required.  It is essential that you have a Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS or HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.  It is also essential that you are currently registered with the HCPC.  The shift pattern for this post is Monday – Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm.
