The role of this post is to provide effective operational management and leadership to the pan-Lanarkshire team leading actions within the Lanarkshire tobacco control strategy particularly in relation to prevention and protection.  To support the tobacco control programme manager in providing strategic leadership across the tobacco control agenda.   The post holder will have responsibility for effective chairing of key governance groups to support the delivery of strategy actions.  The post holder will ensure participation, representation, and reporting to key committees within the wider governance structures of NHS Lanarkshire as well as key national structures.


Key work areas

•Ensure the effective delivery of actions outlined in the Lanarkshire Tobacco Control Strategy, with particular focus on prevention and protection actions.

•Line management of Health Improvement Seniors and supporting the management of Health Improvement Practitioners, Health Improvement Assistants, and administration staff.

•Support the delivery of evidence based prevention and protection interventions.  Contribute to future evidence base e.g. through the use of Improvement Methodology, and by developing partnerships and supporting collaboration with academics and researchers in the tobacco field.

•Develop positive working relationships locally and nationally with colleagues within tobacco control and those in the wider health improvement arena.

•Ensure prevention and protection activities are developed and delivered to achieve maximum benefit in the most deprived areas and priority groups.

•Support the development of “Invitations to Tender” for commissioning of work which will contribute to the delivery of actions within the strategy.  This will involve liaising with colleagues in procurement to ensure compliance with standing financial instructions and procurement processes.

•Ensure staff are aware of and comply with relevant organisational policies and practice.
