We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for an ambitious and highly motivated Pharmacist to join our small team of pharmacists and technicians, providing pharmaceutical care to the population of Caithness and Sutherland. Caithness General is a modern, well-equipped 42 bedded Rural General Hospital with facilities and services including accident and emergency (A&E), general surgery, general medicine, renal, ambulatory care unit, palliative care, diagnostics (X-ray, ultrasound and CT), a high dependency unit, surgical theatres, day case unit, laboratory and pharmacy. The hospital provides consultant-led acute and rehabilitation inpatient care, a community midwifery unit and a range of outpatient services. The department also provides clinical and supply services to 3 community hospitals in addition to the Rural General.


You will be a GPhC registered pharmacist with good organisational skills and an eye for detail.  You will have excellent communication and inter-personal skills; will be able to work independently and also as part of a developing team.

This post is available as a band 7 if you have experience, knowledge and skills in clinical pharmacy or as a band 6 development post if you have less experience: applications from newly qualified pharmacists will be considered.  You will be supported with extensive training such as the Scottish Hospital Pharmacists’ Vocational Training Scheme or equivalent Post Graduate Diploma and you can progress to band 7 within this post once the appropriate knowledge and skills have been developed.  This is an exciting opportunity to develop professionally and work with the team to develop an innovative pharmacy service aligned to Prescription for Excellence and Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care, whilst being able to contribute to clinical and patient safety programmes in secondary care.


This is a permanent full-time post of 37.5 hours per week, to be worked Monday to Friday in order to meet service requirements.  A full driving licence is essential for this post and you will, on occasion be expected to travel between various work locations within Highland to meet the operational requirements of the service.
