In line with Scottish Government Health & Social Care Directorates guidance, National Services Division (NSD) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Network Scientific Manager to provide specialist scientific support to the Scottish Pathology  Network (SPAN). This will be a secondment and the appointment is for two sessions per week for a fixed term of 2 years. Potential applicants should clarify with their current NHS employer the potential for support to be seconded from current duties. The successful candidate will work from their current employing Board who will be compensated for backfill costs incurred or additional sessions paid, depending on the candidate's current employment status. 


The Scientific Manager will provide scientific leadership and direction to SPAN working collaboratively with the Lead Clinician and Programme Manager to enable the network to deliver and develop its aims and objectives. This will ensure that the Scottish Pathology Network continues to develop in the future and is in a position to lead and respond to the changes in the delivery of diagnostic services.


Applicants will be scientific leaders in Pathology at Post Masters level, and have knowledge and experience in the provision, management and development of Pathology services.  They will command the respect of colleagues nationally and will have a proven record in managing change within a complex environment. The ability to work across traditional NHS Board boundaries and organisations is essential.

Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
