What You'll Do

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Psychology Directorate within NHS Education for Scotland.  Following on from the publication of the Scottish Strategy for Autism, and the establishment of the national ASD Reference Group, we are seeking an experienced and highly motivated practitioner to deliver a portfolio of national educational initiatives focussed on Neurodevelpmental Conditions / Autism.  This role will focus on work with adults, but will also provide the opportunity to work collaboratively with colleagues across a wider age range.

The post provides an opportunity for practitioners with experience in Psychological Interventions to take a leading role in a programme of work at national level.   This will include promotion and further development of The NHS Education for Scotland Training Framework: Optimising Outcomes and the associated Training Plan for Neurodevelopmental conditions / ASD.   The postholder will be expected to contribute to the development of training across all themes of the Framework:

  • Identification, Screening, Assessment & Diagnosis
  • Management, Support & Intervention
  • Autism Across the Lifespan

Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills are essential, as is engagement in partnership working with a range of stakeholders. In addition the post-holder will be committed to multi-professional and inter-agency approaches to education and healthcare, and will be able to demonstrate flexibility and high-level diplomacy skills.

What You'll Bring

The successful applicant will be an innovative and highly motivated health or social service practitioner (qualified to Masters level or equivalent) and have significant experience of clinical practice in the field of Neurodevelopmental / Autism, teaching / training, facilitation and working in a healthcare / social care/ education environment.


The base for the post with be Edinburgh or Glasgow but is important to note that it will be necessary for the successful applicant to attend a significant number of meetings in each city.  The post will require travel throughout Scotland, and occasionally to other UK countries.
