Working at the very heart of the health service, NHS National Services Scotland delivers services critical to frontline patient care and in support of the efficient and effective operation of NHS Scotland.  A major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services.  Our goal is to maintain the highest standards of patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.
The duties of the post are to support the blood bank and immunohaematology laboratory, clinical apheresis service and provide clinical transfusion advice to hospitals within the catchment area of the regional centre and for some nationally delivered services.  In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to national issues within SNBTS through the Patient Services Directorate.
This post is offered under the terms of the new consultant contract and as such the job plan is available for consideration.  The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the job planning process and will be subject to review at least annually.  The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in the consultant appraisal system
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure Scotland check.

Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Applicants must be registered medical practitioners who are included on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council or within three months of completing CCT qualification.
