As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland, the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale – through our leading position in new product development, biomedical research and donor services. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive. 
We are looking for a NMC/HCPC Registered practitioner to join our SNBTS Transfusion Team to promote the safe and appropriate use of blood and blood components through the development of national programmes of education, associated quality improvement and clinical effectiveness initiatives. You will be the named Transfusion Practitioner for NHS Borders and will work closely with NHS Borders staff. You will also work with colleagues across the east region (Lothian, Borders, Fife) as required as well as the wider SNBTS transfusion team.  You should be able to work with limited supervision and demonstrate flexibility in delivering the requirements of the post. Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to adopt a flexible and proactive approach to problem solving is required to promote and champion this national programme at all levels. Candidates should have experience in a blood transfusion, haematology or related specialty.
Candidates should be educated to degree level or equivalent experience and should have extensive clinical transfusion experience. You will be required to travel between NHS sites and Higher Education Institutes in order to fully undertake all the duties associated with the post and as such a valid driving licence is desirable. The post-holder will be responsible for supporting safe transfusion practice and maintaining good communication channels across NHS Borders as well as supporting other areas covered by the SNBTS Transfusion Team East Region. 
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure check. Any candidate who has worked overseas for more than 3 months will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
