Working with a Greater Glasgow and Clyde remit you will be an individual who will support the strategic and operational delivery of the Public Health Protection service including NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde (NHSGGC) Covid-19 Test and Protect (T&P) programme.  You will support the Clinical Services Manager, Consultants Public Health Medicine (CPHM)/Public Health Specialists and the wider Public Health Protection Unit in the provision of specialised information, advice and support to stakeholders for all aspects of communicable disease control.  You will provide a specialised epidemiological knowledge base which will underpin health protection programmes of work including the COVID19 Test and Protect programme.  This will include the development and implementation of surveillance systems and research, and involve the analysis, interpretation and presentation of complex epidemiological and surveillance data to support the delivery of health protection functions including the management of outbreaks.  You will lead development of the Public Health Protection applied research strategy by undertaking research & development activities which may include the preparation of applications for funding.  They will be expected to work within agreed budgets and available resources.  The remit extends to a catchment population of 1.2 million people, within 6 local authority areas, and includes schools, nurseries, universities, day centres, education departments, Scottish Water, environmental health departments, health and safety departments and a host of other organisations.  You will work as part of a small specialist team, but also exercise autonomy in decision-making and provide a supportive role to a wide number of agencies and the public.  You may be required to co-ordinate work of junior team members pertaining to their specific area of work or research. You will be required to train staff, supervise or mentor junior staff and demonstrate specific tasks or work as required to others.  You will be educated to degree level in a relevant subject and hold a Postgraduate qualification in epidemiology and public health or PhD, MPH/MSc in epidemiology or public health, and will have a good understanding of the key strategic issues facing Public Health in GGC and Scotland. You will have a demonstrable track record of success in a senior administrative or project management position within a large, complex, multi-unionised environments delivering projects and supporting the strategic direction for public health services. Enthusiastic approach with excellent organizational skills, flexible and able to work on own initiative and with others. You will have highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written, and a commitment to personal development and staff.  The shift pattern for this post is Monday – Friday with evening and weekend working as required.
