Job Purpose


This post is based in the CAMHS Intensive Treatment Team which provides intensive home based treatment to young people and their families with the aim of reducing the number of hospital admissions or facilitating early discharge. At present the Team also provide a liaison role in relation to young people who present to local hospitals following an episode of self harm or in a mental health emergency. 

CITT is a small team comprising one band 7 CAMHC, two band 6 CAMHCs, one occupational therapist and one support worker. The Team is based in Coathill Hospital in Coatbridge but provides a service across all of the NHS Lanarkshire area.   CITT provide an extended hours service i.e. 9am- 8pm Mon – Fri and 9am – 5 pm on Sat and Sun.


Additional Information Specific to the Role


Child and Adolescent Mental Health Clinicians are recruited from a variety of professional backgrounds including Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Psychology.


CAMHC’S are deployed throughout NHS Lanarkshire’s CAMH Service which offers a service to infants, children and young people up to their 18th birthday if they are in secondary education.

The CAMH Service currently comprises :

  • early intervention services (Tier 2), provided via the primary mental health team for children up to the age of 12 and by the Lanarkshire Youth Counselling service for young people aged 12-18 years,
  • six (Tier 3) locality based multi-disciplinary teams.


In addition there are a number of functional teams which provide services specific groups of young people i.e. looked after and accommodated young people, young people whose lives are affected by parental mental illness and a paediatric psychology team providing care to young people with long term conditions.


The role and function of the CIT team is outlined above.

Registered Nurse, AHP or Social Worker AHP or Social Worker with evidence of relevant experience and appropriate post registration training that fulfils the competences of this post or be qualified as a child trained Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP).


Educated to Degree Level.
