Job Status: Fixed-Term (18 months)


This national GP Associate Adviser role is a new initiative developed as part of Scottish Government’s expansion of foundation programmes and will be a key link between the foundation programme and the GP trainer community.  The ambition is to increase the number of foundation placements through recruitment of new GP training practices and through a positive educational experience promote recruitment to GP specialty training.


The successful applicant to this GP Associate Adviser post will work with the GP Director/ Assistant, other GP AAs with Foundation responsibility, Foundation School Director and Foundation Associate Postgraduate Deans to identify new GP foundation training practices in Scotland and to provide support for GP trainers supervising foundation trainees.


  • In conjunction with the GP Postgraduate education team they will provide a team based approach to Educational Supervisor support including individual feedback, meetings and trainer workshop input.


  • In conjunction with the NES Careers team they will encourage recruitment to GP Specialty Training.


Communication with relevant others is of high priority within this post. The nature of the post requires a degree of flexibility in terms of the changing emphasis of the post as determined by priorities identified within the GP Postgraduate education team.
 
This post is a one session post and can be based in any of the NES Postgraduate Offices in Scotland.
 
The successful applicant will be medically qualified with a background in Primary Care and understanding of and experience in GP education. Reporting to the GP Director, they should have excellent communication and organisational skills and the willingness to take responsibility for managing their own workload. They are expected to participate in an annual appraisal with one of the Assistant GP Directors. The post is temporary, subject to annual review, with a salary based on the GP Educator’s scale.
