The Beatson is seeking a Clinical Scientist to play a key role in the scientific development of MRI planning for radiotherapy.   The centre will shortly install a new MRI scanner dedicated to Radiotherapy, both for routine treatment planning and for the development of new techniques.  You will assist the Head of Radiotherapy Imaging in commissioning the new scanner and in maintaining and developing MRI-based radiotherapy planning techniques. 
 In addition to the core MRI role, you will join a team of Medical Physics Experts supporting the wider radiotherapy planning and imaging service.   The Centre has thirteen Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators equipped with KV, MV, CBCT imaging, four Philips CT radiotherapy simulators including one dual-energy CT.  The Beatson offers specialised planning techniques including SABR and IGRT for a wide range of clinical sites, many delivered using FFF technology. The post is based at Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow but there may be a requirement to carry out some duties at the Lanarkshire Beatson satellite centre in Airdrie, Lanarkshire.  This is a unique opportunity to combine your MRI and radiotherapy knowledge to help create a new service dedicated to applying state of the art MRI imaging to the radiotherapy patient pathway.  Experience of both MRI Physics and Radiotherapy Physics would be advantageous but is not essential.   Training will be provided for successful candidates with previous experience of only one field.   You will have an opportunity to gain specialist knowledge and experience within a large centre, contributing to many aspects of the scientific support services provided in the Department and participating in a wide-ranging number of new and ongoing scientific developments. It is essential that you have a 1st or upper 2nd class honours degree in Physics or allied subject and that you have possession of a recognised MSc in Medical Physics and a Dip IPEM in Physical Sciences in Medicine or equivalent experience is required. A doctorate or equivalent advanced knowledge, experience and/or training is required.  State Registered as Clinical Scientist by the Health Professions Council.   Visits to the Department and to meet other staff are welcomed and encouraged. ​​​​​​​The shift pattern for this post is between the hours of 7.30am -8.00pm.
