Job Advert

The Breast Service at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary would like to invite candidates to apply for two Consultant Breast Surgeon posts of 8PAs and 10PAs which have arisen through a combination of retirements and additional investment in this service.
The inpatient service provides care for residents of NHS Grampian, NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland; it also delivers highly complex tertiary surgical care for a small number of patients referred from NHS Highland and Tayside.  There are around 480 new Breast Cancers treated each year. All associated specialties including the Breast Screening Centre, Plastic Surgery and the regional Clinical Genetics service are located on site.
Successful candidates will join a strong team of five Consultant Breast Surgeons, General Surgeons and professorial staff who contribute to the service.  It is an exciting time for the service as not only do these posts allow the service to expand to meet demand but the service will also be moving, with other Women’s Services, into a new purpose built hospital, the Baird Family Hospital. Building work is already underway and there will be opportunities for the new consultants to be involved in re-shaping the service in preparation for the move.

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).

Candidates must also demonstrate sub-speciality training in the full range of Breast Surgery. Experience in Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery is desirable although not essential.

For further information or to arrange to visit the department please contact: Ms Elizabeth Smyth, Clinical Lead for Breast Services Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (elizabeth.smyth@nhs.net or 01224 552106)
