Job Advert

An exciting opportunity exists for four highly skilled and motivated General Surgery Consultants to join our team at Dr Gray’s Hospital.  These are full time posts (10 PA’s, 2 EPA’s negotiable) with a 1:5 on call which includes out of hours and weekends.  Successful candidates may base themselves entirely at the Dr Gray’s site but there is an expectation that interested and suitably qualified applicants will enjoy developing a sub-speciality interest at a General Surgery department regional site.  Speciality interests will be accommodated primarily within NHS Grampian, at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where possible, or alternatively at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. This ‘hybrid’ model of working will provide the combined benefit and flexibility of working in a small, friendly rural hospital while continuing to pursue a speciality in a state of the art setting of a major acute centre.

Dr Gray’s Hospital is situated in Elgin, the county town of Moray serving a population of about 132,000 and provides emergency and elective general surgical services within the hospital and at selected community hospitals.

There are good links with Aberdeen Royal Infirmary which is a Tertiary Referral and Major Trauma Centre.  Increasingly, links are being developed with Raigmore Hospital which is the main teaching hospital for NHS Highland. Supporting staff at Dr Gray’s include 2 Specialist Trainees, 1 Core Trainee and 4 Foundation Doctors. The Hospital continues to develop a cohort of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to support junior rotas and Consultant workload. There are 2 Specialist Nurses covering Oncology and Stoma Care.  In addition there are 2 Surgical First Assistants with extended skills who provide theatre assistance. The Hospital enjoys a strong association with the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University and the University of Highland and Islands.

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from date of interview or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).
